The Stonard Report

A redacted informant’s report describes infiltrating a Grin funeral in Stonard and recommends exploiting the clan’s depleted forces and internal divisions. A private note softens the betrayal, but Gorfrunch orders the spy found and punished.

Stonard Report from Informant (Omitted)

1. The Informant’s Notations:

4:15

Arrived in Stonard. True to previous intel, Flight Master, (Omitted) and wyvern keeper are a pack of drunks. Challenged keeper to drinking game and subdued him when suitable intoxicated. Now disguised as keeper and in prime spot to observe the (Omitted).

5:45

First of (Omitted) arrive by flight while I’m cleaning dung. Dressed in ceremonial robes, don’t appear as the psychopaths described. A pale-furred tauren appears to be the conductor of the funeral. From on-record files, it appears to be (Omitted).

6:00

Clan has appeared in larger numbers. They are conversing. I am too far away to make out the conversation. Maybe I should have disguised myse—

6:05

Close call. Elf from the (Omitted) became very curious to my presence. Seemed satisfied either by my abrupt, drunken act or by the fact that I reek of wyvern dung. Didn’t recognize him, but can look him up in the (Omitted).

6:12

Two members fighting. Called each other (Omitted) and (Omitted). Since the death of the last chief, (Omitted), the clan has become more hostile than recorded?

6:22

Another close call. Elf passed right by and stood by the mailbox. Probably not spooked by my presence, but by the idea of a counter-attack by the (Omitted), (Omitted), or (Omitted).

6:31

(Omitted) has arrived. Good to see an old friend, even if he’s not aware I’m here. And even if this would constitute a severe betrayal. Treated with respect by his underlings. If (Omitted) becomes chief of the (Omitted) again the clan could put up more resistance than desired.

6:33

(Omitted) was called chief.

6:38

Infighting again from a speech during services. (Omitted) appears to be uninvolved with the conflict. Old chief, (Omitted), was described as weak and therefore unfit to live. Sentiment wasn’t met very well.

6:42

(Omitted) speaks as chief. Can’t hear what he’s saying. Also can’t get any closer.

6:47

Fear the (Omitted). Blah, blah…

7:02

Had to abandon my disguise. They were starting to get drunk and suspicious. Thankfully the first issue made me aware of the second. Hard to sneak up on a spy when you command people to look for him.

((Here the pages of the document end. There are two more pages, each written in a different hand.))

((First Page))

Grin is vulnerable to attack. Their war in the north has whittled down their forces by at least half. Furthermore, with their last chief dead, they appear to be in a period of disorganization and implosion. Spread out with no stronghold of note. No noteworthy source of income or assets. Strong allied presence, but easily strained.

Recommend whittling them down rather than a direct fight. Incite Keepers and Covenant to push on; discredit them among their peers.

((Second Page))

Sorry, Gor. You helped me survive in the camps all those years ago, and this is the best I can do to return the favor.

Gorfrunch

Gorfrunch snarls as he reaches the bottom of the note.

"I want the informant tracked down and brought to me."

Cailos shifts uneasily, but nods. "Yes, Chieftain."

"Treachery is treachery, and will be punished as such."
